Canada Fishing June 2023

Canada Fishing June 2023, drive in fishing trip to Abram Lake at Sioux Lookout. We stayed at Sioux Retreat -The Pine Island and fished on both Abram and Minnitaki Lake. Many Walleyes were caught, we couldn’t keep count, ate more fish than we’re used too and brought home legal limits for all of us who went. We also caught many Northern’s, or Jacks as they seem to call them in Canada. The Northerns were brought home too, just trying to fill out our licenses. The Small Mouth bass fishing was done just to break things up. What a blast, those 19-20″ bass fight like crazy. We put all of those back.

The trip was in early June, second week.  Drove up on a Wednesday and came home on a Sunday. Nice length for a trip like this.

What’d we use in Canada Fishing June 2023?

Although we brought Leeches the Walleye’s were primarily getting caught on Chartreuse Jig tipped with a minnow. A guide was hired to help us find the fish on these big bodies of water and his comment was “I buy Chartreuse jigs by the 100’s” and man, did they work. We also caught, and lost, several big Pike on that same setup. Casting, drifting and trolling with Rapalas of various varieties and colors also worked well. Often times they broke the line since we didn’t have a Leader. Fishing rods were Medium-Light Fast action. I personally used a new setup from Cabela’s that really worked out well for all the species we fished. I used a Croix Eyecon Spinning Rod and a Shimano Sahara R Rear Drag Spinning Reel it was a great combination for the fishing we were doing.

Where did we go in Canada Fishing June 2023?

We caught many Walleyes at the Abram Rapids on the Abram side. We also caught many at the Tressel bridge on the west side between the bridge and the North Shore. I can’t say where we went on Minnitaki Lake because so many islands lack names. Suffice to say you can spend a lot of time on that lake and catch fish of many varieties all over the lake depending on when.
